Robert Downey Jr. and Wife Expecting a Baby, Hoping for a Girl

“Behind every great man… there’s a woman with her hand in his back pocket patting his ass and her arm up his back telling his mouth what to do,” Robert Downey Jr. once joked about his relationship with his film producer wife of six years, Susan.  But her hands are soon going to be busy with another bundle of trouble — their first baby together.

For some reason, I thought these two already had a couple of kids together.  I apparently thought wrong.

And we know who’s going to be left off the baby shower invitation list:  Susan’s aunt, Nancy Miller, who went running to Star magazine with the new$.  In an “exclusive” interview, she tells the publication: “I think it’s wonderful that she’s pregnant.)”  (Translation:   “So I can profit off the announcement.”)

“The baby is due in February,” she adds. “Susan’s father, my brother, called me about three weeks ago with the good news. Her parents are over the moon about it.”

Although this is the first child for Susan, 37, the 46-year-old Sherlock Holmes actor also has a 17-year-old son, Indio, from his 12-year marriage to Deborah Falconer.

The two have had babies on the mind for at least a year now. In 2010, while promoting his comedy Due Date, Downey predicted he’d have another kid in 2012.

“I think I will be wrist-deep in doo-doo within 18 months. I’m calling it right here,” he said.

And, in typical quirky RDJ style, he expressed a gender preference:

“I think we should probably try to have a girl because I don’t want another male entity to have to compete,” he said. “I don’t want Indio to feel there’s another boy in my life. But I don’t know what we’d have to do [to have a girl]. Do we have to put it in a spoon and hang it upside-down?”

Well, that’s just ridiculous.  Everybody knows that to get a girl, you have to put “it” in a spoon and stick it in the microwave for ten seconds.  Geesh.

Congrats, you crazy kids!
