Elmo Becomes Spokesmuppet for Federal Government

I SWEAR the timing of this story — on the heels of THIS post — is a coincidence. Really, Mr. Candy! *AHEM*
As part of its campaign to slow the H1N1 flu, the federal government has enlisted the help of a likable star with a high-pitched voice… No! Not David Beckham, silly. I mean the other cute, squeaky-voiced celebrity: Elmo.
Yes, the “Sesame Street” character has joined the Swine Flu madness, starring in a public service ad campaign rolled out today that encourages kids and their parents to practice good hygiene habits. The four versions focus on washing your hands, sneezing into the bend of your arm, and avoiding contact with your eyes, nose and mouth.
Not surprisingly, Oscar the Grouch was not asked to be a spokesmuppet for this particular campaign.

Is Elmo really a good choice to be a spokesmuppet for avoiding the transmission of communicable disease. Isn’t he the one that wanted everyone to tickle him on his furry (but naked) body?
That doesn’t sound sanitary to me. Not to mention, when we tickle him aren’t we being tickled by everone who tickled him before?
