Countdown to Tears

My mom just poked her head in before going to bed, and rather than the usual “good-night, love you,” she asked when she should start crying because I haven’t gone into labor yet.   This is what it’s come to, people.  Until now I’ve been able to distract my parents with day trips to Santa Monica and a pantry full of sugary snacks, but the gig is up.  The pressure is on.  I have eight days left to produce The Granddaughter before they must return to Pennsylvania.  If Baby Girl stubbornly remains in Club Uterus, I will have let my parents down in a way I haven’t let ANYONE down since informing Grandma Kirby I got a job as a staff writer for CBS’s The Bold and the Beautiful.  To which Grandma replied:  “You REALLY should have gone to law school.”

I hear you — I am in the EXACT same position (just a week behind you). I have my mom insisting that I have the baby before she heads back east and my MIL crossing her fingers that I won’t so that she can arrive on our doorstep the moment the baby is born and be the first to see him/her. And of course, each of them thinks that I have some kind of control over this and am therefore doing it on purpose.

I’m thinking happy labor thoughts for both of us!

Congrats on making it to full-term+! Lucky you — pressure from *both* sides of the family!

    Happy labor thoughts, indeed.

What is it with these damn kids being a no show?!!!! Mine is still in there too. I have my husband ringing me at home and surprising me in the shower asking if it’s coming yet. NO IT IS NOT. All I’ve produced in the last day is a head cold.

And now I just had a stomach cramp typing this, which I bet is just a stomach ache from eating half a block of chocolate.

    GOOD LUCK!
