Husband of the Week: South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford

After treating South Carolina to a rousing game of “Where in the World is Governor Mark Sanford?” for almost a week, the governor has finally emerged.  And if you had “A Secret Trip to Argentina to Visit His Mistress” in the office pool, collect your money now!

“I’ve been unfaithful to my wife,” Sanford told a news conference in Columbia, the state capital. “I developed a relationship with what started as a dear, dear friend from Argentina.”

In case you missed it, she is “dear.”

His voice choking at times, Sanford apologized to his wife and four sons, his staff and supporters, and said he would resign immediately as head of the Republican Governors Association.

The affair began in the last year and was discovered five months ago, Sanford said without elaborating. He added that he and his wife were trying to work through this li’l infidelity issue.

The lesson learned here:  NEVER trust a man who pompously poses with his jacket slung over his shoulder.  Truly.  Never.
